Cancery Boobs
Hello all.
I created this blog as a place for sharing information about my current medical adventure. Today I learned that I have breast cancer.
The story begins in 2008 when I had a benign breast lump removed. The biopsy revealed Lobular Carcinoma in Situ (LCIS), which sounds scary but is just abnormal cells that indicate a higher risk of developing breast cancer in either breast in the future. My wonderful oncologist, Dr.
Sharron Wilks put me on tomoxifin and we watched closely for any changes. I also had the lining of my uterus removed because this medication can increase the chances of uterine cancer.
But now I have a new lump in the left breast, and some calcifications in the right.
Yesterday John and I went to visit my new surgeon, Dr Peter Holliman and he performed a needle biopsy in his office. Today he called to verify that the left breast lump is malignant.
I have known since 2008 that this might be in my future, so it is more of a disappointment than a shock. I am hoping to have a double mastectomy as soon as possible. We are lucky that the lump is less than one centimeter and is unlikely to have spread. I have faith that my body will overcome this invader with the help of modern medicine and the caring people that make this their life's work.
I have told my family, but wanted to let all of you know. Because like Dr. Holliman said, "We're all in this together."

ReplyDeleteI should be healed in time for the Woodzie. Maybe we'll have a new tradition burning tokens of things removed. Right now I just want to soak up all the light and joy I can handle. I am so grateful for my wonderful life.
